View Full Version : Splitting Component Cables

Is it possible to split a High Definition signal from a cable box to two TV's? I have a finished basement and you can not see the television in the sitting area from the bar area. I would like to install a second TV in the bar area, but not have a second box. There is only one set of component outs on my Scientific Atlanta cable box, but I think there is also a DVI connection as well. The main TV would be only a few feet from the cable box, but the second TV will be about 50 feet (of cable run) away.

I was wondering if there is a Component cable splitter with one in, and two out. Not sure if such a thing even exists. I was also thinking I could hook up the TV that is close to the cable box with a DVI cable, and the other with the Component cable outputs, but I am not sure the signal is broadcast simultaniously from the cable box to the two outputs, thus defeating the purpose.

Any advice is appreciated.

You could try some "y-connectors" to see if they'd work (one for each of the 3 cables). Not sure if the losses would be too high.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking of that too, but I think the high definition signal will lose too much. I guess I will probably just add a second box in the bar area, but I was curious if any sort of component splitter existed, since both TV's will be tuned to the same channel 99% of the time.

Thanks Again,

Chris

Here are some ideas for starters...

Wow, thanks for the links. I kept searching Google for a splitter or Y connector, but I should have been looking for a distributor.

Thanks again, thats what I was looking for.
