I have a chance to purchase the 4ft Ultra 1000 monster component cables for 38 dollars. The regular price in these are 100. These are brand new in pkg from Best Buy. I have a friend who gets 65% off purchases.

would you buy these cables? Or jusst get some cheaper from another place?

If you can buy Mon$ter products for about 1/2 price or less, then that's not a bad deal. Sure, you can probably buy equivalent cables for $20-30.

See the following thread.

I am pretty happy with the C-cable that came with my STB and the $20 ones from Walmart.

Lets set the price at $100 then reduce it to $38 and make buyers believe they are getting a deal. Do you see the phsycology there.

$38 is an excellent price, I say go for it. I get a similar deal through a friend and at that price they are worth it i'd say.

Just shows you how much the mark up is on Monster products...

Yea, a four foot component cable is just twelve feet of RG-6 CO-AX cable. You can buy Quadshield for $.20 a foot, the co-ax would cost $2.40, and six RCA ends would run you only a couple of bucks at Radio Shack. All in all, you could probably make the same cable for less than $10, or you could buy it at Wal-Mart for $12, why pay $35 for a brand name cable? I've never, ever heard somebody say that their picture quality was even slightly better with a Mon$ter Cable.

I've never, ever heard somebody say that their picture quality was even slightly better with a Mon$ter Cable.I've heard lots of people say it, but they were not "double blind" and that was confirmed in the link in post 2, where even "unblind" there was no difference.

There has never been a "double blind" test confirming any of Mon$ter's claims, where the "competition" was anything "normal".

ie not comparing 6' of 12 ga against 160' of 24 ga... Or composite vs component, which Mon$ter do all the time - although they are honest about it now in many BB stores they actually say component vs composite, but how many people notice.

I wouldn't buy monster cables because of their notorious lawsuits over companies that have "monster" in their name. I also think their plugs are too heavy and inflexible and can damage jacks.

Funny you mentioned Coax.

I just bought 2 screw on "F" to "RF" connectors at H. Depot and made a 50 ft video cable out of 50' coax I had extra. Works like a charm. I guess I have a 50' component cable then.

You probably meant "F" to RCA adapter.

With a coax cable that is already terminated with "F" connectors, it can be utilized as (1) composite video cable. If you do the same with three cables and three adapters, they can be used as component video cables.

If you only bought 2, I guess you have a 50' composite cable.

Thanks for correcting me. They are RCA jacks no RF. Yes I have a long cable I use for using a spare camcorder as a security camera

That cable would make a nice sub cable also.
