When viewing in HD mode through a comcast supplied dvr box, The screen is streching to the right or offset, quite often. It does not do that in normal non-hd mode. I have tried multipule settings and adjusting the tv and cable box to no avail..

Any ideas? :thankyou3

My sharp does the same thing. At first it was only 60 percent of the time when switching from standard tv to HD. Now it happens all the time when I switch channels from sd to hd. I have to turn the tv off and then on again. The PQ is then fine...I guess I should call Sharp as it must need some new software upgrade... I did turn off the auto view and that doesn't help.....

I called Sharp and was advised by them to change the settings on the STB. I changed the setting output from 1080i to 480p. That seems to have cured the problem.. I can now use the view modes of zoom, stretch, Sstretch, side bar....I played around with the different STB settings.. 720p would not work at all...considering the tv is made for 720p I am suprised that doesn't work...The sharp tech told me I would still be recieving a HD signal when the STB is set to 480p output on HD channels. THis would just allow me more leeway in view modes????? I am not sure if I can tell the difference from a signal sent by the box as 480p or 1080i. The TV tells me the signal is now 480p but the PQ looks fine... Does this sound right to anyone.....I think the FAQ here state to set the STB to 1080i and leave it????

I have also just recently purchased a Sharp Aquos 37" LCD, and was not effected by this problem untill the 3rd week of use...Kinda weird. I will try the powering on and off after switching modes, tonight when i get home.

My questions is; How do I change, and where are the STB functions?

Cheers,

Depends on you STB, Motorola? SA? but if your are setting STB to 480P you are getting DVD quality not HD. If your going to do that you could've saved some money and buy an ED set instead of an HD set.

Thanks,

It is a SA 3250 box and I believe it is currently set to 1080i or this is what the input caption in the corner of the TV says when I change from digital to HD programming.

See the HDTV FAQ "Tips for SA STBs".

The problem with the picture being offset about 1/4 from the bottom is a issue with the compoenet input. I had the same problem when watching DVD's via compoenet, I have no such image problem when watching OTA digital. Sharp released a firmware upgrade/fix on 2/27/06 that was to address the locking up and the set's turning itself on issue with the D4U, and D6U models, it didn't fix those problems but it did fix the offset image issue via compoenet.
