I'm looking to upgrade my house to HD, with DirecTv. Since being told that I would need a 5 LNB dish and that the HDTV tivo would not and would never work to bring in HD local channels, I've been searching for a reliable assesment for an antenna for my location. I've been to the antennaweb.org, and it says if I've read it correctly that I need a medium directional antenna. However what one?? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks...

Looks like you are 25+ miles south of Boston.

Go with a Channel master 4228 outside on a mast about 10' above your roofline.

If you want reception from other cities to the west, add a rotator and CM7777 preamplifier.

Boston and Providence will be a piece of cake for you with a Channel Master 4228 if you use a rotator: be careful though, because WLWC-DT is only a couple of miles from your house, and, if you use a preamplifier, you risk overloading your tuner with signal. Where you are, you should be fine without a preamplifier, though. Here are some links with good antenna information:

Thanks for all the input. As of right now it seems pretty obvious that the Channel Master 4228 is the favorite. I used the link to Channel Master and that unit seems to be a Large Directional, is that more than I need, or is it better to jump from Medium to Large? Also if the coax run from the antenna to the multiswitch was over 50' would the signal need to amplified?

If you go with the 4228, there is a possibility that, if you have a multiswitch, you may need a preamp: you didn't mention how many television sets you have, but if you are feeding more than 2 sets, consider a Channel Master 0065DSB preamp, which will work from the power supply built into your satellite receiver.
