According to the latest news, The CW network will appear and the WB and UPN networks will dissolve.
Fall is the launch date as CBS (UPN) and TW (The WB) will have this new network to compete against the big four networks they have been losing money against.
See:http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060124/ap_on_en_tv/tv_network
For those of us in areas not served by these networks in HD due to contractual problems with Sinclair or other local operators and thus not getting them in HD on our cable systems (like TWC subscribers), this could be a good thing as the Tribune company-owned networks will be carrying this new channel, hopefully in HD.
For those of us who are wondering when Directv will add their favourite WB and UPN HD channels, forget it ... maybe Directv (and Dishnetwork) will carry this new channel, instead (if it comes in HD of those HD LiLs or a new national HD channel). :D

I am wondering what going to happen here in Atlanta. We have both stations broacasting in digital OTA. Wonder what will happen to the extraq channel?

The report on Boston.com states that WSBK (UPN affiliate for us here) will continue to operate without UPN programming. We'll have to see what they'll have to offer. :grandpa9:

The new CW will be broadcast on WLVI currently the WB affiliate.

One solution would be to have the UPN or WB station, whichever does not get affiliation rights to broadcast The CW network, to offer HD reruns and specials-or even overflows when there is a conflict (sports).
This could be somewhat like what INHD channels do when they offers other network programming other than its own.

Time to rename this section to "The CW."

No, but the programming "geniuses" at the CW decided on another year of
"7th Heaven" :nono2: even after it had its "finale".

Outside of "Smallville" which I can watch on HDNET since my TWC system does not carry it in HD (Sinclair battle), I could care less about the CW. :mic:

Yes, please rename this thread as UPN and WB are dead networks and as far as the "new" CW network goes, it might as well be, too (at least for me).

Now that CW is up & running I noticed they have a new music station called Thetube.
If your a rock fan you will love it & there are no commercials.

The Tube has been popping up in various places for some time, we got it as a sub channel to UPN in Baltimore over the summer. It is a good station, just music like MTV was way back when.

MTV used to be a good station way back, I agree! I can remember it the first time I got cable when cable was new(Group W Cable). Now it seems all the older cable music channels play nothing but rap.

Now, if only this new network, "the CW" could appear on more cable and sat locals in HD than it does.
"the CW" is not faring as well as expected in the ratings from what I have read in avs, but that could change as its name could be new for some viewers.
Granted, it has a limited amount of HD programming compared to the other 4 networks, but I think it would be a plus if more of us could get it.
OTA in my area is not always an option as it is a lower-power digital station (in some other areas, too), which can add to reception problems.
Directv, if I remember right, has 4 cities (Atlanta being one of them) that carries CWHD along with the other 4 HD locals...its a start.

I just added The CW to my systems channel line-up...The CBS station carrying the sub channel was quick to give me retransmission rights :mic: when I asked for it :thankyou3

So anyone in Mt. Orab Ohio that has Bryer Cable, The CW is on channel 8

We have CW(Comcast Cable) on channel 8 also here, but the CWHD channel on my TV comes in on channel 60 something. Haven't had the chance yet to watch it in HD since I have been busy at night so have been just recording it in NTSC format on my regular VCR.
Wish those DVHS recorders would come down in price & would be better in quality so I could tape HDTV.

While I understand the need to archive (everything?), doesn't Comcast have HD DVRs in Minnesota?
The picture I will get from watching "Smallville" tonight in crappy analogue is so gross that it is barely watchable-I would be overjoyed if it finally came in HD on TWC.
Unfortunately, if I want this show in HD (watchable), I must wait a year for HDNET to pick it up, you don't have HDNET, but I'd give it up for CW-HD at least for this.
Unlike Comcast, TWC does not negotiate with Sinclair stations, so we won't get CWHD and MyNetworkTV HD, ever, at least until the analogue is shut off and must-carry takes effect.

I forgot to mention that while the CW is NOT in HD that I am transmitting...it IS digital :smokin:

gparris,

I did email Comcast about there DVR's & they say they record in HD, but then I would also have to upgrade to a Digital package service & get an STB. I'm not a big fan of STB's, unless there is a way to pass the signal through it when it's turned off or recording another channel on a DVR. Maybe there is something in the FAQ section on it. Isn't HD fun? So many possibilities.

Yes, a friend of mine is looking for a house in Coon Rapids (new job) and Comcast already sent her info on the "requirements"of getting an HD DVR based on subcription.
All the while we thought TWC was so expensive, now the grass isn't "greener" afterall.
BTW, the (HD)DVR is a requirement, as once you get one, you wonder how "survived" without one...regardless of the pricing.
I know, I have three and buying them is out-of-question, as the economics of upgrading and repairing don't add up vs. satellite services (had Directv 8 years).
All I do is exchange the malfunctioning or older STB at their office and get a new(er) one....a no-brainer.
Time-shifting is easy and archiving to DVD is very easy, although not in HD, of course (yet).
Oh yeah, the CW in HD is very exciting on HD time-shift!
