Voices, Please excuse the length-I promise there's a point in there:)

In the beginning of January my wife left her job due to illness. At that point I researched long and hard to find a nice TV to help pass the time with what she loves(movies). I wanted a DLP set between 50" & 55". I had about 8 feet of distance between seating and set. After looking at the Samsung and Sony models I made my choice. I went with the big screen leader. I chose the Mits WD52525 (crash landed on it more like). I won it at auction on eBay for what felt like a great deal. Thousands under retail and now I know why! I went through three different shipping methods and waited almost three weeks for it's arrival. After the hell it arrived Friday at 6:30 p.m. Just in time for my wife and I to enjoy her Steelers. Before I went to work I wanted to show her what all the hype was about. I was mortified! Below is a description of what happened when I plugged it into my surge protector.

I hit the power button and I saw the TIMER light start to blink furiously. I waited that out with no picture showing thinking it had to warm up. Second-I heard the FAN kick on. Along side the fan engaging I heard a crackling sound near the filter and what sounded like an engine trying to start up. A very fast flash of light flickered but never any sustaining image or sound. It would rev up and fade-rev up and fade. The TIMER light went solid and then started to blink and fade. It did this until the FAN shut off and the LAMP light came on SOLID RED! The picture nor the sound ever emerged. A total silent black screen. I know you're going to say replace the lamp dummy. Before the set was sent-the seller replaced the lamp and sent the old one as proof. I even took the lamp out and checked it for my own good. BRAND NEW. Understand this as well-The STATUS light never ONCE came on or even blinked. The TV is now sitting in front of my HT seats USELESS. I hit the MENU & DEVICE buttons to get the error message. The error message is 34. That is explained as LAMP ABNORMALITY.

I have been on every Tech site and have had grim explanations that the seller obviously sent a DOA set. I've been told it could possibly be the light engine? The Chassis? Bad lamp (even though it was just replaced) A bad power supply? A faulty connection at the lamp or a combination of fatal flaws? I was told it could possibly be a simple connection issue? Not likely though---------

Of course this happens on a Saturday! This is killing my relationship. My wife and I feel like we've been robbed. I want to file a claim through PayPal and eBay on Feb 7th. If it's a simple problem covered by warranty than I can accept the steps taken and release the funds to the seller. I need a difinitive answer so I know whether or not to file and pursue action. I need to get back the much needed money for a household that I hold up! This is really important. If you can help me a.s.a.p you'd be doing the world for us!

Try unplugging the TV for a few minutes and plug it back in (directly to the wall to rule out the surge protector) to see if that "resets" the TV. See also the HDTV FAQ "Things to check first".

If it's still not working, time to call for service.

I've tried to reset the TV- Tried different plugs throughout the room-With and without the surge protector. I've posted this complaint on about 4 different sites. Everyone ends up with the shrugged shoulders and the definitive answer. Make a service call! I absolutely will as soon as they open on Monday. I received the TV Friday so I haven't had the opp to get a closer look through a Tech's eyes! The reason I'm here is so I can address the service call with an ounce of confidence. This isn't going to be the end all of the set or my wallet. It might be the end of sanity as I know it though! I'm hoping the tech gets the set running by attacking a specific issue rather than addressing multiple possibilities. I would love to have a designated area on the TV to point to and say "that's the ticket!" I just don't want to get worked any harder by a repairman than the seller already did to me. HELP :shootout:

No offense but I think that was your first problem was buying something like this on Ebay. I personally would never buy a HDTV off of Ebay unless I knew it was coming from a reputable source.

I'm finding an average price for this thing is $2k how did you get it a couple thousand below retail and your upset? the bulb should be more than you paid.

Not what I was looking for,

I didn't need a pat on the back or some sort of lecture. The set can go for up to $3000 new. I got it at $1000. That's a couple grand under retail so shut-it. There shouldn't be any red flags when a persons feedback is 100% and they specialize in HDTV sales. He was reputable but there's a first time for everything. ............... The reason you critiqued my message was simple-you had no idea what was wrong-The bulb was new and that was in my message. If his original add listed the TV as a store front TV that was in flawless shape than I take it to turn on at least! It wasn't a stretch to think this TV being a late 04/ early 05 model could go for $1000 open box. Did I expect it to work-yes-did I expect more insight from people who own these TV's yes! I have Sony's throughout my 5 bdrm house. This TV was going to fill my small HT room but when you have so much square footage to chose from I guess I'll just stretch out in front of another TV in another room until techs who actually know what they're talking about fix it. .......

I don't know what you expect. You got 'burned' and now you want everyone to hand you a hankie.

Don't criticize/insult everyone providing an honest opinion. Deals that are too good to be true, normally are...

Caveat Emptor and good luck with your repair(s).

yeah cat quit bragging about your sq. ft. in your mansion, if you got that kinda of cheddar than have someone out to fix the tv. I'm not rich by any means but at least I don't have to go searching on ebay for a used 52" tv. If you would have done you research the tv is 1499.99 at bizrate.com. YOU GOT TAKEN, and before I felt bad, but now I could care less. bullet I hope you have a great day. god bless

Maybe you didn't get burned. Maybe it just broke during shipment and a tech will be able to fix it. I wouldn't rush to judgement on the seller just yet.

I agree a lecture is not what you wanted. Unfortunately I can not point you to a specific answer. What I would do immediatley is contact the seller. Most Sellers on Ebay with perfect ratings like to keep them that way. Is he an authorized reseller? If not this may void warranty work. How about a link to the seller?

I was about to buy from eBay a MITS or Sony and called service first. Both want a bill-of-sale from DEALER before any warranty service coverage.

I bought my WD-52525 from Costco for $2000 last week. Including the stand.

Just think, bullet - You could have another grand in your pocket to blow at the tables!

I know you live in Vegas, but Ebay is ALWAYS a poor bet for things like this. :sightv:
