:headb: I am rather versed in my TV settings and how each setting in my "7" and "9" service menu's effect my TV. My question is I am using VE (Video Essentials) with some test patterns to set overscan, convergence, and my basic color, tint, brightness, gamma settings.
Now I have VE running on my Xbox 360 using component (YBrPb) in my DTV input. This is my only input that will have the 1080i capability. Now the Xbox 360 is able to produce a signal of 480p while playing a DVD. So I made my changes using the test patterns in VE at the 480p mode. Do I now need to go into the HD (1080i) mode and make the adjustments as well> By the look of the TV I do. The only way I can enter the HD service menu is having my comcast HDTV box on an HD channel and put in my service codes.(do this by having a component switcher).
If I can only enter in the HD(1080i) service menu by having it already in that mode how do I get test patterns to be able to make my adjustments to?
Or can I use the same numeric value across the board in my serive menu's of 1080i, 480i/960i and 480p????
any help would be awsome. I am making these adjustment prior to having to either resolder my IC chip points or replace them all together. I dont mind doing it twice if need be, good practice.

It is my understanding that each input needs to be set.
480I, 480P, 1080I respectively

Unfortunately most DVD players will only output to 480P so the VE will not provide an true calibration for 1080i.

You could try and use the settings you used for the 480 inputs and use that as a baseline and tweak from there.

or

You could get a professional calibration that can use test equipment that has all the patterns to adjust the TV in 1080I.

Or

if you have HDNET or INHD you can use their "TUNE UP SHOWS" which broadcast simple patterns that are in 1080I formats.
HDNET broadcasts their test patterns every am.
INHD brodcasts the test signals every Saturday at 7:00 cst
Now these are simple patterns nothing as advanced as the VE but still a simple starting point you could use. Than you can fine tune it from there.

I used the INHD to tweak 1080I and used the AVIA to tweak the 480P.
I used the color filters form the AVIA on the INHD patterns and the TV seemed to respond well. I guess I went 50/50 with the test patterns 50% AVIA and 50% INHD patterns.

]But the TV looks 100% better.

Alexgtp,
Thank you I do have INHD and did not know they broadcast some test patterns. I will have to get up and take a look and hopefully they will help.
I have a small probelem because the fact that I use my Xbox 360 as my DVD player and is on the same input of my comcast HDTV box.(I have a component switcher) The basic user settings (color, tint, ect.) I can't change other wise that will effect the 480p mode. So I have adjusted small amounts in the HD service menu to help compensate for that and I have to say I am happy with the results but not satisfied. So hopefully those test patterns will help.

I ended up using the DVR to record the test patterns. TOO LAZY too wake up that early..LOL!! And I can play it over and over..
