View Full Version : Burn lines on tube set

I recently got a Panasonic 34WX52. Everything I've read about burn lines on widescreen tvs seems to apply to rear projection or plasma sets. How does it apply to my set? My fiance hates all of the stretch options but I don't want to burn in on my new TV.

Thanks for any advice.

Direct view TVs use CRTs just like RPTVs, so the burn line issue affects Direct View sets also. I believe there are currently no TVs that are not affected by this issue.

RPTVs, Plasma, Direct View use phosphors and are subject to "uneven phosphor wear" (burn lines).

LCDs have issues with "black level" that change in the areas affected.

I'm not sure if DLP have the same issues as LCDs or not, but I think they may be the least affected. Perhaps a DLP expert can jump in here.

Not sure about LCoS either, but they're about $10k, so most people won't have to worry...

DLP is the only one that won't burn in - it uses no phosphor or LCD's; it is pure reflective mirror technology.

LCoS is merely LCD's on top of silicon, so will eventually suffer burn in just like a LCD.
