I'm own a Philips 32PF5320 (europian model) and it has two scarts and one DVI socket. So no components, no HDMI socket. The television supports HDTV 720p and 1080i but only through DVI cause thats the only socket on it.
Please note that on euro models have a HDMI connector, but not mine.

How can I hook on the Xbox 360 ? Is there signal lose or quality loss with using a component to DVI converter cable ?

There is no such thing as a component to DVI converter cable. DVI is digital, component is analog. You might be better off looking for a device to convert component to SCART.

I've noticed that my Xbox 360 came with a HD component cable, which is used to connect to a HDTV with component connectors (which my Philips does not have). On a side note, but I may be looking at it to black and white, if component is analog, is HDMI a better way of connecting ? Or does the HDTV (1080i) the same wether its component connected or HDMI ?

btw Im looking into trading my philips to another model that has component sockets

MS has stated they may make an HDMI cable available in the future but they have not set any dates for when that might happen. For now component and VGA are your only HD hookup options.

I tought about hooking my Xbox 360 via a HD VGA cable, but I'm hearing all sorts of wild stories stating that if you use the PC DVI connection on your TV you will only get the PC supported resolution which is drastically lower 1024x768. So I dont know it anymore.

I've been on the phone with Microsoft, Philips, etc one thing is for sure the complexity one gets when not having a components enabled tv is nightmarisch.

Not sure but i dont think your getting HD through Scart. I have a philips , as I understadn it you can only connect through RGB to VGA/DVI. Try this with some couplers to link the Component cables to the dvi via VGA. Worked in the shop when i had a similar problem recently. http://www.lektropacks.co.uk/search_results.php?keyword=ss15d3P

The XBOX 360 can do up to 1366x768 over the VGA connection.
