I just got a well three SA3800HD boxes today however using HDMI cable I only get vid and audi on DIGITAL channels
No VID or Audio on analog 2-72 is this just a HDMI thing ONLY for a digital signal?
If yes dont see many cable users using HDMI.
thanks

It depends on how you set up your audio and where you want to hear it.
In the user setup you need to set the audio to HDMI out to hear via the HDMI cable (Settings/Audio, or something like that). If you want to listen to a Toslink or coaxial connection to an AV Receiver, I believe you choose Dolby Digital.
Check out those audio settings. Also see the HDTV FAQ "Tips for SA STBs" for the other settings, tips, etc.

I had the same problem: No video on my non-HD channels.
Also, I had to choose between outputting audio to my TV via the HDMI OR to my receiver for DD5.1. I couldn't make the box do both (e.g. output DD5.1 AND HDMI to the TV).
Considering both problems I simply switched back to component.

I fixed the vid problem in the 8300hd settings use only 780p and 1080i or just 1080i.
I now have vid on analog channels
You are right you cant have 8300hd out put hdmi audio and dolby dig same time, bummer The Picuter for me is better however with HDMI with my VIZIO LCD

That makes sense. There are quite a few TV's that do not support 480i over HDMI.

What about 480p (if sidebars are an issue and the TV can't stretch the 720p/1080i image)?

rechecking and yes 480p is working via HDMI also I left off 480i and all seems OK

You're correct about the 1080i problem (as soon as you posted it, my memory returned).
I can get analog channels when upregulating to 1080i. I've only hooked up my HDMI once however, for the Superbowl and had my box set to "native pass-thru" to get the 720p signal.
I haven't solved the audio problem. In my experience, the HDMI looked better on HD channels. (I believe my other problem was adjusting the TV volume via the remote, but I didn't troubleshoot that at all).
