So you get what you pay for..... since i've paid for nothing, that's what I've got! Any comparative tips on these two models from personal experience? or even other recommendations in this 150-350 price range?..... (I know that HD-DVD is around the corner.... but i read something at the 900 range, I don't think I can pull that trick. Thanks for the input, Michael :thankyou3

I have or have had both.
So I recommend the Denon for ease of use, overall picture and it has the audio SACD/DVDA feature with very good upconversion processing.

All the Sony has is HDMI upconversion like the Denon, no Faroudja processing and a cute little blue HDMI light I found irritating.
Additionally, I returned it due to poor picture processing and the unit made a thin line on the bottom or top, depending where I tried to adjust it with a 1.85:1 DVD in it (no it wasn't 2.35:1).
Buy what you like, but the Denon works better for me and seems better made with more features, IMO. :)

Glad to be of service-you can get Denon DVD players many places, just make sure it is from an authorized seller (if any problems occur, just like any other product).
Local HT stores, Crutchfield and so on sell Denon products...give them a try.

OK, so they do have the hd dvd for around $500. Toshiba hd-a1 that will be released this month..... but it doesn't look as strong on the audio side compared to sony or denon. I know the pq is the reason to get the hd dvd in the first place. I'm surprised there isn't more buzz about these players on this site.

What I dislike about the Toshiba HD DVD is that the unit does not have the 8 audio analogue out for the Dolby TRUEHD or DTSHD audio (that I can find) which is one of the reasons for HDTV and High Def DVDs:
The new surround sound available (7.1 discrete)...poor on Toshiba's part.
IMO, get the Denon unit, use the upconversion capability on it and wait until the whole Blu-ray and HDeDVD dust settles (and better units than the Toshiba come out).
