I have read around here that the tv I have (kdf42we655) 1366x788p automatically upconverts to that resolution no matter what i connect to it. So im anxious to purchase a new upconverting 5 disc dvd player comming out, model: dvp-nc85h/b but i am concerned that i wont notice an improvement. I have read many reviews of people buying these upconverting sony HDMI DVD players (other models) and had great results, but i havent heard from anyone with a 788p tv or other oddball resolution. If anyone has one, or experience with this your feedback would be greatly appreciated as my dvd's appear "soft" now and i would like to get a little more detail out of them.
thanks,
Brian

I have a Sony KDF-60WF655 with an LG upconversion player that sends out 720p over component (info button indicates this on Sony HDTV set) that works good.
The set, too, upconverts everything to the resolution your Living Room set does, but I noticed a difference in colour and some detail, anyway.
As for the 5-disc changer with HDMI upconversion, I think if it had been available when I bought my original 5-disc Sony changer, I would have bought it, instead, but that's just me.

yeah, i bought that original 5 disc ps player about 2-3 yrs ago. was a great player when i had an ed plasma. but it looks a little blury on the 42" HD. The HDMI equiped 5 disc is the first one sony has released and comes out later this month. Thanks for the reply...hopefully i can get a few more testimonials.

Well i feel lame replying to my own thread but if it helps someone else in the future than i guess it's a good thing!
I just bought 2 of the Sony DVP-NC85H/B 5 disc upconvert players and they make quite a signifigant differance. someone on another site explained upconversion in this comparison and i couldn't agree more. if DVD is a 6 and HD is a 10 than upconvert DVD is a solid 8.5 it's not quite HD but definately an upgrade over plain old 480 progressive.
In your case, I'm glad it turned out this way, but realize that this is highly dependent on the PS DVD player, the upconverting player, and the HDTV.

Sounds great...maybe I will sell my 2004 Sony 5-disc progressive player and use the LG for my (eventually) new SXRD set and get what you have, Brian@BBY !!!
