I am relatively new to all of the HDTV tech. I need some questions answered, in newbie lamens terms.
Here is my situation. I just purchased an XBOX360, so I'm going all out for it, I want to take advantage of the HDTV capabilities. So, naturally, I've been doing my research, before just going out and buying any old HDTV. It would be nice to just go out and buy the latest 60" Sony HDTV at Best Buy, but hey... I just don't have that kind of cash. Anyway, I've been looking at used TV's, on eBay, in the paper, etc., because as I mentioned before, I don't have a lot of cash to spend. I'm looking around at the different HDTV's and such, and I notice mostly all gamers prefer the 720p format. What 720p is... I have no clue, but they want 720p, so I guess that means I am looking for a 720p HDTV. All I know really is that p is progressive scan and i is interlaced, 720p is 60 frames per second and 1080i is 30. I have no clue what the difference is technically speaking, though. Now, I'm also a bit confused on this, some of the TV's I'm looking at say they support 480i, 480p and 1080i. Now, this is confusing to me... how is it you skip from 480 and go straight to 1080? It seems to me if it's capable of 1080i, shouldn't it be 720p compatible as well? Is it bad if it does not support 720p? Should I avoid that particular set?
Here are basically my questions in a nutshell without all of the blabbering. (keep in mind I'm a newbie to HDTV and I need it in lamens terms)
1) If a TV supports 480i, 480p and 1080i... does that mean that it will definitely not support 720p?
2) Would a TV with a HDTV tuner built-in have a better picture on my XBOX360 than just an HDTV monitor?
3) Are there any TV's any of you would recommend for my needs? I basically just want an HDTV to play my XBOX360 on. No other purpose. As I said, I'm looking for used TV's right now in a variety of places. Basically just Samsung, Hitachi, Sony and Toshiba brands.
