I have been playing a few DVDs on my Xbox 360. The quality looks good to me. Anyone compare an upconversion DVD player to the Xbox 360? Anyone have quality issues via Movie playback on the Xbox 360? I think they look great.

The upconversion looks a lot better I just compared the two earlier today again, but take note I use a DVI cord for the DVD player versus the component for the 360 but surely they look better on the dvd player.
I found the 360 looked bad when compared to my dvd player.

It's a decent DVD player for those short on TV inputs - saves you an additional hookup.
If you have a choice... you'll probably prefer a dedicated player.

exactly, why use it as a DVD player when I have one already hooked up.

I'll stick with a DVD player for movies,Xbox for games. It seems like an awfull lot to spend for upgrading a crappy DVD player.

Hard to tell since it hasn't come out yet.
I checked the 360 out again since the update,I found the PQ still not as good as my DVD player but the ff and menu's better.I read somewhere they improved PQ but no diff to me.

but your're not upgrading the crappy dvd player is a seperate one linked with an usb connection wether it will preform well i don't know
newf,
are you using component or VGA connection? you'll only notice a PQ difference with VGA connections since the xbox 360 now displays the movie at the TV's native resolution using VGA. i have my xbox 360 at 1360x768 resolution and movies look terrific.
I'm using component, I was thinking of trying vga with a vga to dvi adapter, has anyone tried that

you can only choose your resolution by using VGA cables. component will only give you the standard 720p or 1080i option, but if you use VGA cables the xbox 360 will give you different resolution size options when you go to your settings.

i know this might sound stupid but is there VGA to HDMI cables
No. VGA is analogue and HDMI is digital.
