My house has no antenna on the roof now. So i can install one any where.

Is it better to have a shorter ground or shorter signal line?

If I mount the antenna close the the grounding rod then I will have around 50' to run the signal cable. If I mount the antenna close to the TV then I will have about a 60' ground run.

In some reading that I have done they say to not install a second ground rod and that ground rods that are shorter then 10' don't really help.

50' for RG6 coax shouldn't pose any problem.

I'd personally try to keep the ground as short and straight as possible.

Ground rod depth should be at a minimum of 6'... but the deeper the better. I believe that if using a second ground rod it is recommended that they both be 'tied' together (connected to each other).

Yes, the ground should be as short and straight as possible. Apply simple electrical conductive properties. Lightning takes the shortest, easiest path to the ground. If your signal cable is shorter than the ground, the easiest path is likely the signal cable...

Shortest route to ground the better.

ok. thanks. I am looking at a CM 4228 on a eave mount over the garage. That will give me the shortest route to ground and a good shot to the towers between the trees.
