Had Verizon installed this past weekend along with an upgrade from my Verizon DSL to FIOS.

Had been with DISH Network for about 8 years but got tired of the signal loss with the weather, especially during Hurricanes. Also, got tired of switching to my OTA antenna to recieve local HD signals.

The install lasted about 4 hours, even replaced old cable runs for me. Picture quality is much, much better on the SD channels and especially the HD channels. Never had TIVO, so the DVR thing is new to me, but driving the wife nuts with my instant replays of live coverage of the NCAA basketball action. Can't wait for football season with this baby!

Trying to get used to the channel lineup. One thing I would like to see is the addittion of more "favorite" lists like DISH had. So far I can only figure out there is one favorite list. I would like to use one for sports, one for movies, one for misc., and of course one for the wife.

Switching channels seems slower than with dish, but I'll sacrifice that anyday for the better picture.

In the initial install request, the customer service stated NFL-HD was included in the HD National Package. It also is listed that way on the Verizon website. But after install they told me it is only included in the extra sports package at a monthly charge. After discussing this with customer service, they said they could'nt give me NFL-HD even though their listing are incorrect, so they just gave me a year free of the entire sports package! Now that's a way to start a customer relationship off on the right foot!

Oh, did I mention that now I get my FIOS internet and TV for the same price I was paying for just DISH. So far, very satisfied with the switch to Verizon FIOS.

HD in the Sunshine State!

Sounds good, you're making me jealous up here, my part of MD won't see FIOS for years if we see it at all. Keep us posted on how it goes.

DVR's tend to change channels slower that standard (Non-DVR) receivers. I noticed this BIG TIME when I changed from my DirecTV HD receiver to my DirecTV HD-DVR.

One thing I'm trying to figure out is my Sony Vega has display settings of "Normal, Full, Zoom, Vert Zoom, Horiz. Zoom"

In the "Normal" mode, the picture (HD & standard) covers the entire screen. In "Full", it ends up with side bars (either gray, black, or white) for non HD channels and an entire screen for the HD channels.

Recently, sometimes my TV will not offer the option of "Normal" mode on any channels so I'm stuck with sidebars unless it's HD.

Still looking for my Sony TV instruction book, but wondering if the FIOS signal is affecting this in some way.

Other than this, still glad I switched form DISH to FIOS.

Wouldn't be the FIOS signal, some TV's lose certain stretch modes when feeding it an HD signal, what do you have the box set to output at?

what do you have the box set to output at?

Not sure what you mean. The tech hooked the box to the TV via the HDMI plug. The Verizon box menu settings does not really address video out.

What make and model is the receiver? There should be a menu where you can adjust the resolution the box outputs at.

Hold down the menu button with the box powered off and you will get the video settings screen.

Sorry for the delay.... Do not know what I did, but seems to be working fine now. Of course still get those annoying grey sidebars on NFLHD & ESPNHD when not showing a HD show.

Other than that, Very, very glad I switched to FIOS!
