Hi.

I have a pioneer pdp4360 plasma. I have the 8300hd conected via HDMI cable directly to the tv. In the STB i have only 1080i and 480i slected. On the settings screen I have Auto dvi/hdmi selected. When i change channels between HD chnnels and SD channels I get a snow screen some flickering some lines and then the picture.

Is this normal? I guess either the STB or the TV is converting from 1080i to 480i or vis versa? is that what is going on? Is there any way to set up the STB or the tv so there is a smooth tansition when goig from HD to SD.

Its a brand new tv and i want to make sure nothing is wrong with the tv.

By the way I have CABLEVISION in westchester new york.
Thanks

The only way to avoid the reformat is to set the 8300 to output 1080i only. However, you might then give up being able to use your TV stretch modes for SD channels. Once you start watching HD, you'll find that you do less switching from SD to HD and vice versa and the less frequent reformatting isn't as bothersome.

This is "normal" whenever you change formats. This is not an upconversion, it's simply watching one format (480i) and then another (1080i). Also, you have a DVR, so there is little need for channel surfing, simply watch what you've recorded. The only time you will then encounter the format change is when you watch an SD programme after an HD one, or vice versa.

I wouldn't suggest the 1080i only option with a plasma, unless you rarely watch SD, due to burn in possibilities - see the HDTV FAQ on Burn in.
