I am mounting a 10' mast. How much pole should I have between the top mount and the bottom mount?

How large an antenna are you expecting to use? A deep-fringe antenna shouldn't have more that 4'-5" maximum of unsupported masting, less if at all possible.

I am mounting a CM 4228. I am going to use the CM 9030 eave mount. I have solid 2x4 to mount it to.
You say 4 - 5 feet over the top bracket right? I can't find much info on the internet about the "actual" antenna install.
I am going to try the antenna on the 10 foot mast in the back yard to see how much signal I get. I get most channels pretty good with an amp on a set top antenna. If I am getting good signal from the back yard then I should be fine to cut the mast down to only have 5 foot over the top bracket.
If I don't get good signal at 5 foot over the top bracket what do I need to do to suport it higher?

I set the antenna up leaning on the back of the house below where I plan on mounting it and had all local channels coming in at 5 - 6 bars. Which I guess is in the 80 - 100% range.
So I will keep the top of the mast around 4 foot over the top bracket

Keep the full length of the mast so you that can adjust the height of the antenna until you get the best signal then cut it down.
Space the eave mounts as far apart as possible also. I was going to use an eave mount for my 4228 but with the pitch of my roof it would have only spaced the mounts about a foot apart so I ended up with a wall mount instead. It's on a 10 foot mast.

how far apart should the two brackets be? You said you did not like it at one foot. How far is ok? I would like it to be as high as I can have it. But was getting good signal with it just leaning on the side of the house. So I do not want it to fall down just because I put it up too high.

I got it put up on Sat. I only have 18 in between the two mounts. I cut the mast down to 4 foot. Install went great and I am pulling in every local channel in the 80 - 100 % signal range.
Thanks for all your help
