So I have a Toshiba 46H84 HDRPTV and was thinking about upgrading to a Sony Upconverting player (the $130 one at Best Buy). My TV has a HDMI input in it...would I notice any difference then in pic quality? I know some say on some TVs it doesnt make a bit of difference and on some it makes quit a bit...so anyone know how it would fair on my TV?
Secondly...I have a Sony reciever...so would it be possible to send the video through the HDMI but the audio through a digital cable into my reciever for my surround sound at the same time?
Thanks for any help!

1) There are varying opinions. Best option is to try it out for yourself and "you be the judge". Best Buy has a 30 day return policy if you can't justify the $$ vs. the improvement.
BTW... don't get an expensive HDMI cable from BB. You can get them for under $20 from monoprice.com or hdtvsupply.com (if one isn't included with the player.
2) Yes. You will probably need to run a separate digital connection from the DVD player to your audio receiver.

Toshiba sets have some of the best scalers out there, don't know if I'd even bother with an upconverting player if you already have a good one.

i have last years Sony HDMI DVD player on one of my LCDs, and it works good enough. I didnt notice any difference, I bought it for the cable cleanup mostly. I think I will buy the current one again for my other LCD, as i had no complaints. But I'd rather have one HDMI cable into my TV than a 5 strand component setup. Along with a HDMI STB, that makes for a very clean layout.
