Ok so yesterday I went into my TV's service menu and kinda screwed the coloring up. Anyone who has the LG LCD HDTV 17" Model # 17LX1R please help me out. I need the default settings for the "AUTO GAIN" menu. If you hold down menu on both the remote and TV at the same time for about 10 seconds this menu will pop up. You have to be on Component Video for this to work. It will be titled "AUTO GAIN". There are 6 options listed and each of them have different numbers to the right of them. If you could please get into this menu and tell me the default settings it would be greatly appreciated. The menu for which I need the settings for should look something like this :

AUTO GAIN
Red Gain ?? (?? = I need the number)
Green Gain ??
Blue Gain ??

Red Offset 2 ??
Green Offset 2 ??
Blue Offset 2 ??

Thanks so much

I just bought this LG , and I love it . Got it mounted nicely on an Ergomart heavy-duty LCD arm right beside my living room chair . Anyway , was wondering if I could help you with your problem , or if you already found out how ? Take a look at the monitor set-up at http://thxbox.spaces.live.com

I need the default settings for the "AUTO GAIN" menu.
Please read the HDTV FAQ on "service codes". There are no default settings, but the settings that someone provides MAY get you in the ballpark. Each TV is unique.

Red Gain ?? (?? = I need the number)

The controls are for accurately setting the grayscale. Other folk's numbers will indeed get you to a "ballpark", hopefully in the same state as you..

Grayscale by eye...

Your going to have to take your time and rent a test disk. The pattern you need is one called a "crossed grayscale step pattern" See below,

Put it up and enter service. For practice, write down the numbers you see now in its ugly state... Just had to get one last dig.

What you want is the absence of any coloration in the step pattern. Just black to white with variations of gray in between. Your eyes are just about the worst tool for this job, but if you get it pretty close, it'll be alot better than it is now.

Most folks when doing it this way will end up with a color temperature in the high teen's (over 10,000k at least) when the standard is 6500k at D65. The good news is that if you try and experiment, then retry. you can actually get it looking a ton better.

Use the Gains to adjust the brightest boxes, the cuts/bias to adjust the darkest. Pay special attention to the darkest. Have the lights off in the room.

Good luck on your endeavors, you are not the first, nor will you be the last to enter the service menu and flame your display. If you need to, contact me by email and we can set up a phone consultation (not free) and I'll talk you through it. Better still, contact an ISF tech near you and pay to have it measured/tested and verified.

Good Viewing,

problem. Using cable card. Every time the tv is turned off (when the tv is off it is supposed to go to standby mode) after about 5 hours, the tv will completely power off. This is a problem b/c the built in tv guide is supposed to be updated when the tv is in standby mode (turned off). Also, the only way you can get the tv to power back on is buy unplugging the TV. When I take the cable card out, this doesnt happen! Obviously the problem is the cable card. Also, the people at LG say that they are working on this problem? Does any one have similar problem? Help!

Perhaps you could explain the issue. Even when people don't own the particular TV, they can often assist.

Yeah, still having problems with the auto-gain settings. I just need someone to supply me with them, I know they wont be exactly like I had before, but it should get me in the ballpark.
