Does anyone live in Manhattan (NY) and has had difficulties with a landlord concerning the installation of a dish on the roof? I live in a CoOp building and I believe reading before that it is illegal for landlords to prevent you from putting up antennas. Is this true and does it apply to Satellite dishes as well? If so where can I get such information to show to my landlord. Thanks in advance.

I dealt with this situation and while it is true the ruling doesn't apply to the roof. Go to www.fcc.gov (I think) and look it up. In brief the law says that the landlord cannot prevent you from installing equipment to receive tv including antennas and satellite dishes AS LONG AS they are placed within your leased/owned space that you control access to, meaning a PRIVATE balcony, patio or yard. To be placed in any common area (even if it is right in front of your front door) you must have approval from the landlord. Also even if you are on the top floor and have a balcony facing north you must have approval to put a dish on a pole that extends above the roofline to face south because it exceets the vertical limits of your owned/leased space. In addition to all of this even in your space you cannot attach it to the landlords property (drilling into the building) without approval and in Texas he/she can make you sign a satellite agreement and pay an extra deposit if you attach it to the property.
