Just bought a samsung dvd upconverting HD860 and have an RCA D52W23 HDTV and have it connected with a HDMI-DVI cable...and am watching the movie blackhawk down... The movie says it plays in 2.40:1 ratio and says anamorphic...but I am getting the blackbars... was wondering if I am missing something here? shouldnt those blackbars be gone?

HD sets are around 1.85:1, your watching a movie that's wider then your set, hence the black bars. Check the FAQs on black bars here, it explains it further.

you are absolutely right...I guess you really do learn something new every day...I always thought anamorphic ment the picture was exact fitting for a 16x9....
this little web site helped explain it well...and thanks for your input, here I was thinking my new dvd player was noncompliant.

Actually 16:9 (HDTV's) are 1.78:1 aspect ration.
