I purchased the 37" Sharp Aquos and love it but have one question. When I'm switching from a high definition channel to a "regular" channel and vice versa a message comes on the screen saying "confirming system cable" and the screen goes black for a second or two. Is there a way for it to switch from high def to low and back without getting this message? If I change the aspect ratio to stretch or zoom it doesn't happen, but I really want to view everything in normal mode. I have the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD cable box and a yamaha receiver (not sure if that info helps or not).

It may just be a trait of the TV as it sees different formats?

How are you connected - HDMI, Component video, both?

See the HDTV FAQ "Tips for SA STBs". If it doesn't hurt the picture quality, you could send everything as 1080i, but most people prefer passthrough or upconvert1/2 for the SD channels. (Most HDTVs cannot stretch HD signals, but since you don't want to stretch...)

Is the video signal going through the AV receiver or direct to the TV?

Are you changing the aspect (Stretch mode) on the TV or the STB (SA8300HD). IF you're using the STB, then the signal is changed to HD (either 720P or 1080i) depending on how you ran the setup wizard when you stretch. You can see this on the front display of the STB.

After reading the HDTV FAQ "Tips for SA STBs" I just tried changing the settings for the picture format and it seems like the "fixed" option takes care of t and now I don't get the annoying message and black screen for those few seconds. It doesn't appear that it has effected the picture at all and I am able to use the stretch and zoom on both the SD and HD channels. YEAH! Thanks for responding......I really appreciate this website! :thankyou3
