Just for bleeps & giggles I picked up a 1920 today. I've been using a Mits. DD-6030 that's almost 4yo (from manu. date) & figured it may be time to try something new..........plus I wanted to give the SACD/DVD-A a go. One issue I have is my Mits. 55315 (rp-crt) does NOT scale everything to 1080i. Upon hooking up the 1920 & popping in the "Eagles farewell tour" dvd I was a bit disappointed to find that the pq is actually worse than from my 6030.........looks like SD on DTV. Yes, I made sure I had it set to prog. To make matters worse, I can't try the HDMI on it because my tv only has a DVI connection. That's what I get for going cheap. I know there are adapters for DVI to HDMI but I've heard that hasn't worked too well for some who have tried it.

As far as the audio portion goes, playing regular cd's seems to sound a bit better...........tough to discern because I didn't set it up for a A/B comparison. I've only one SACD (no dvd-a's) to play which is DSOTM. Sounds great but it's only 2 chan's.............I like to listen in 5-chan whenever possible. As far as I can tell from the Denon manual there's no way to utilize its' DAC for 5-chan listening other than a dvd-a or sacd that happens to be 5.1. No real bass management to speak of either.

Bottom line is I've little or nothing to gain from this player. Not saying it's a bad unit because it's not...........it's just no better than what I have. For about $400 after tax there's just not enough to gain IN MY SITUATION to warrant keeping this. So back to the store with it. They do have the new Toshiba XA1.........for $800.

Any 1920 owners out there have any suggestions for something I've missed or any quirks to alert me to before I write this unit off? Like I said, I really have no beef with it........easy to set up, fairly easy to operate & navigate ( although I still don't care for Denons' manuals).............

There is a lower numbered Denon DVD player that uses component (model DVD-1720) that should do a great job for about $149 that does nothing more than progressive scan without the SACD and DVD-A.
Unless you are planning on a library of whatever is left of the titles of either (almost non-existant in many stores), I would just get a decent DVD player until the high def DVD battle is over, but that is just me.
I have a Denon 1910 that upscales quite nicely using DVI output, if that helps. :)

Seems as though the 1910 would be a better fit for my tv. They've got a couple 2910's but they're still $600.

I've been wanting to try out the SACD/DVD-A for a while now &, while the sound is quite impressive, I don't feel like going out & re-buying a lot of music I already have. If I change my mind I can get a less expensive player some other time.

Part of the reason I did this was for comparisons sake.............wanted to see if a newer player would be much of an improvement over the 6030. In this case it really wasn't & if I'm going to spend more for a player it'll be a HD.

Thanks parris......

I also experimented with the Pioneer player model number 563-A, replaced by DV-588-S and it only cost me about $139.
Now, it only does CD, DVD (great progressive scan), DVD-A and SACD wiht a great picture and menu system in a small package...not upconversion, but it has great reviews, including mine.
