I just got a DVD recorder yesterday. Mainly it will be used to record older VHS to DVDs so I will not have to use a VCR. I converted some Tae-Bo VHS tapes to DVD for my wife and noticed that when I played them over my HDMI Hitachi dvd player the sound wasn't there. I had the audio set to bitstream. When I changed the audio to PCM the sound worked fine. Is this because the original VHS was mono and not digital? I am just trying to get a feel for recording because if I dub a dvd will the 5.1 sound also dub?
