I guess that's what they're called. Panamax I know makes them, along with Monster.

Are these necessary?

Here's my setup.

50 Sony Wega RPTV
Denon progressive scan DVD
Pioneer Elite Receiver
Klipshch speakers, 2 front, 1 center, two surrounds, and a 10 in sub.

All are basically plugged into a monster surge protector, (don't remember what type, it was probably 100 bucks, maybe a little more.)

Will these power source type cleaner units help anything? I don't wanna spend $350 more for nothing. I've had this set up for about a year and a half, and have had ZERO problems. For the size room it's all in, it's perfect and I love it.

Thanks for all input!

If your home has good, relatively new wiring, I see no need for such a device. If you don't have one, you should likely have a UPS so that the fan on your LCD-RPTV keeps running in the event of a power failure.

All of these items have been discussed many times in this forum - a quick read of recent threads should provide the information you want.

If your equipment seems to be happy, there is really no need for a power conditioner. An APS isn't a bad idea, especally if you have a computer of a TiVo (so you can safely shut the device down), but you really don't need to add anything.

I was on another forum (the AVS Forum), and there was a guy who lived in an industrial neigborhood with "dirty power" (AC hum noises, power spikes, etc...). This guy was having problems with his Dish Network box powering off and locking up frequently, and also had some annoying ground looping issues, and some other random noise coming out his speakers, so he invested in a combo $500 pure sinewave power conditioner/APS, and got rid of his speaker problems, and his Dish Network box has been working much better.

If you don't have these kind of problems, there is no real reason to sink some serious cash into a power conditioner.

If you are that concerned about power quality, why not use an online UPS, which uses the battery as the primary power source. At least it won't cost as much, or more than, your TV. This Minuteman MPC700E is less than $600 and has digital signal processing circuitry: http://www.powersystemsdirect.com/Minuteman/700_VA_500W_True_Sinewave_OnLine_UPS_Tower_MCP700E_557.php
