View Full Version : Sound quality with upconverters

I don't know if I am just imagining things, or if my sound had improved using my new DVP5960. I am using the digital (rca jack) output, as I was with my crappy DVD/VHS combo. Perhaps my old player was just really bad, or perhaps it indeed upconverts audio on DVDs since it has a feature to upconvert CD audio built in. If so, the purchase was worthwhile even with no noticeable difference in the video upconversion compared to the TV's built in upconversion. (However, if I output 480p from the player, it looks worse, suggesting that the TV won't convert that mode).

Has anyone else perceived an audio improvement with this or any other upconverter?

There's nothing being done to the audio in an upconverting DVD player, there's nothing to "upconvert" with audio. Probably cause it's a better player then your "crappy" combo unit as you put it.

Darn. I was hoping the player was tweaking the sound up the way the manual describes it tweaking up the sampling rate on audio CDs. But hey, even if it's just something as minor as a better internal solder connection to the coaxial jack, I'm gonna stick to my story that it sounds better! :rofl2:

Thanks for the input!
