Last week we had a thunderstorm that knocked the power out. When the power came back on my SA8000HD would not power up -- nothing on the display, no fans running, nothing. It's plugged into a surge protector, however, the cable line is not.

Does anyone have any tips to make it power up?? I've plugged it in several times over the last few days with no results. I know I'm grasping at straws here, but I'm really bummed to miss this many shows! Since I'm only renting the box I'm not sure if I want to attempt opening it up, but is there a way to transfer the hard-drive to another box or to my PC??

Thanks in advance

The only good that came out of this is my new box is the 8300.

Since you've tried a cold reboot, not much else you can do.

Make sure the cable line is working (test it on the TV first or something, directly from the wall, try a different RF-coax cable if you have one, try a different cable outlet and a different electrical outlet (directly into the wall, no power bar, etc). The unit will not boot without a cable signal and without electricity...

See also the HDTV FAQ "Tips for SA STBs" and "Things to check first".

There is no way to view the programmes on the HDD on a PC - they are encoded for use in the SA DVR only.
