I live in the east bay of San Francisco in a town called Danville... I'm about 30-35 miles from the main TV transmitters in the bay area (at least CBS/FOX/ABC). NBC I think is now out of San Jose... Biggest problem is that there are some "mountains", rather, large hills in between me and the transmitters.
anyway, in going to antennaweb.org, it says I can get the signal , but its not clear to me if I can actually get sufficient reception or not. so I may have to just "give it a try" by putting up an OTA antenna. I've heard about a 50/50 split on whether or not the signal makes it over to my neck of the woods sufficiently from the high end video stores here.
I've heard good things about the channel master 4228, but worry about being able to pull in the broadcasts I want (Local networks). I have DirecTV with the new Hughes Platinum HD receiver (with input for OTA).
My question is whether or not there is any way to tell definitively without buying the damn thing and putting it up. Or, do you just trust antennaweb.org?
Are there any online sites that sell the antennas (channel masters) AND are very knowledgeable and can help? Anyone live in danville/san ramon/pleasanton who has any input?
any help is appreciated.
