Title says it all. I'm looking for a fairly inexpensive universal remote to control my 8300HD, TV, DVD Player and Receiver. Thanks
Any of the Harmony remotes will control all that equipment and more - anything controlled by IR. The difference between the various models is mostly layout - how you like the buttons arranged - and whether you want a colour screen.
As an FYI, I use my SA8300HD remote to control a lot of my equipment as it is programmable (not learning). Yes, there are some things that it can't do and you need the original remote to so the "lesser used" functions, I find it adequate a lot of the time. Up to you.
The Harmonys are very "family friendly" because they display things like "watch TV", "watch a DVD", etc.

IMHO, the Harmony's can't be beat (I use a 688), but the keyword was "inexpensive". I don't think there is much in that category that is any better than the 8300 remote. I got my Harmony because the 8300 remote didn't have a code for my Denon receiver.
DD, I don't know how much the Harmonys are in the US now, but I've seen some of them on sale for:
The 688 for C$99 (Costco & Office Depot.)
The XBox 360 (Harmony version) - C$99
The 880 can be had for C$150-165 - with "price matches" and discount coupons...

Yeah, they've gone down a lot, but when I think of inexpensive, I'm thinking >$50. I got my 688 for $149 a year and half ago and as far as I'm concerned that was a great price then and well worth it. I'm not sure what they currently list for on the Logitech website, they can be had for a lot less, like you say, by shopping around. I guess we should have asked his a price range, but I think he'll get the idea from this exchange. ;)
