A few nights ago my RPTV turned blue and died. The unit would turn on...then off. The power light would blink three times. I also smelled some burning coming from the TV. I did some research online and it seems that one of the STK392-110 chips went bad. From a visual inspection it seems one of the resistors took a hit and is brown in color when all others are white.
Now heres the issue. My Uncle (who fixes TVs/Arcade Machines/Jukeboxes...Etc.) is willing to solder in the two new covergence chips, solder the resistor and test the board. I just have to get him the board and parts. My dilemma is the black high voltage unit that I have to unplug to remove the board. I dont know if its safe to pull the wires out. I told my Uncle and he said it should be fine as long as the TV is unplugged but I am always a bit nervous around electricity. Anybody thats worked on these Panasonics know what I am talking about? Is is safe to remove the two wires connecting to the transformer? How do the wires come off if it is safe to remove?
Thanks
A few comments.
- there may be more than one blown resistor, so it's good to test all the ones associated with convergence. See the Sticky on Convergence problems at the top of the Hitachi forum.
- Although you may be correct, the symptoms may not indicate a blown convergence IC. Did you see any colour drift beforehand? Many times when an IC is blown, the colours simply don't converge...
- If I recall correctly, whenever working on the back of the TV, it's always good to wait a while after unplugging the TV for any capacitors to discharge - say 30-60 minutes.

My Uncle is willing to test the whole board so whatever he finds I will replace.

on the panny.tv website there was a member of the forum that had the same three blinking light error and it was the IC. I also read the Hitachi thread and took the best educated guess. If its not the issue I will worry about it then.

Its been unplugged for a few days I hope thats long enough. I really would like a reply from someone who has disconnected this board before so I can be 100% confident.

My Uncle soldered in the two new STK392-180 chips in place of the old 110's that went bad. The TV is working perfect. The picture needed a minor convergence but that was it. Going to go play some more XBOX 360 on my 47"....Later
Ohh I almost forgot the best part....its cost me $40 total for the fix since my Uncle did the labor for free. :)

It looks like I have the same issue as PT47WX53G. TV just stopped working last night and now the unit turns on for 2 - 3 seconds then off again and power led blinks 3 times. Has anyone had there's serviced for this and found the IC bad on this model # as well? Service guy can't make it out until Wednesday next week so watching the old 19" now.

panaero25,
Just saw this and have the same problem with my set. I'm going to get new convergence IC's. I have one problem...how do you remove the red high voltage wires ???
Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, the trick is to push down on the wire at the point where it enters the high voltage module and then twist (I don't remember if you twist CW or CCW, unfortunately). When I replaced the STK modules on my PT53WX52, I just pulled the whole lightbox (chassis with CRTs and all), so I didn't even have to remove the anode leads. I think it might actually be easier that way, since there's less disconnecting and reconnecting involved...
dbp650 is probably correct. The connector is usually like a BNC connector, where you push and turn (I believe CCW).

I did just that and replaced the 110 chips, still same issue....three blinking power lights...then off.
Time to do more research....not giving up for the time being.....

Correction 5 blinking then off.....
Did you change any resistors that could have been blown?
Did you check the circuit board for cracked solder?
Did you read the Hitachi Sticky on convergence problems?

No resistors looked blown....nor any bad/cracked solder joints...I did not read the Hitachi fourm...although...
I bought the service manual...it says five blinks is IC 4511.....that circuit is on the DG board TNP2AA126...so instead of trying to replace the chips/etc...I just want to order a whole board...now I'm trying to hunt that down.....not easy...
Thanks

mmad29: Any luck finding a new board? I have the same issue with the 5 blinks. on a PT-53WX42F.

sigh.. i have the same issue, i cant tell where this IC is.. am i able to replace it myself?
where is IC 4511 on PT53TW53G
anyone? :mecry:
i cant tell where this IC is.. am i able to replace it myself? I think you've maybe answered your own question, if you can't find it and if you haven't read the thread which indicates that you need to replace both ICs, check/replace the resistors on the circuit and check for cracked solder.

Hi!
I am looking for the DG Board for my HDTV. Board number: TNPA2345AB.
or anyone could help me where can i find that in my TV? I do not have any diagram.
My problem is:
the TV working fine for 5 minutes, then the screen turning white, and no picture. When I am turning off, and turning back on again it will working another 5 minutes, than quit.
Any helping is greatly appreciate it.
Thank You
Suzanna

Hate to resurrect my old thread but I sit here 2 years and 2 months after the replacement of my IC's with the same issue. We had a couple of bad storms (Florida) and my TV started losing its convergence then quickly re-converging. Then last month it started to go blue after a few hours of use and turn off. Now the TV will only stay on for 2 mins before going blue and turning off. I ordered the replacement IC's when this problem started two months ago and will update with the results after I give my Uncle a call to solder them in. Sucks that I am going to have to do this every two years. I have a Magnovox 27" CRT that I have had since I was 15...I am now 28. :headb:

I replaced the two STK392-110 components on the D-Board, but to no avail. So I figured I'd just replace the board.
However, I note from the service manual that the DC-Board has a big label "Convergence" with IC7107.
So I'm now puzzled. Should the D-Board or the DC-Board (which has no STK392 ICs) be replaced? I'm reluctant to replace both, that would be getting rather close to the cost of just getting a new TV.

You repair what is wrong. That requires troubleshooting. Board replacement is rarely needed and can be more trouble than you think. I suggest that you figure out why your convergence is not functioning before doing anything.

Well, I have a Panasonic PT-47WX42 47inch TV. The red beam went out of convergence. I replaced both ICs with STK392-150. But red is still out. Using the convergence menu, red adjusts vertically, but won't budge horizontally. On the left side of the screen it's in alignment, but across on the right it's way off.
Blue and green are ok.
So the question is, is there something else that should be replaced? It almost looks like a horizontal motor for the red beam has failed.
Did you read post 15 and the link there regarding replacing the convergence resistors and checking for cracked solder?

Ok thank God for this thread, was having problems figuring out how to take the high voltage wire off so i can take the board to repair shop and solder ic's. Will report how that goes but that should fix my convergence problem.

I replaced my convergence chips with brand new OEM one's, flipped the TV on and I get the red light for 2 seconds and then the repeating patern of 3 blinks of the red light. You cannot turn it off without unplugging it.
Has anyone actually narrowed down what I need to do to fix this?
Anyone with a service manual know what the code for 3 blinking lights means?

Well, I now have my TV turning on.
Weirdest thing though - I can move the BLUE cross up and down.
I cannot move the BLUE cross left or right.
I cannot move the RED cross up or down or left of right.
Does this mean I have a bad chip still? They were brand new OEM one's!!
Sounds like it. See post 1 of the following thread, read it and the links there carefully and thoroughly. There's also a list of things that people did wrong:

I did some more digging - seems like one of the resistors isn't giving me a reading. I believe it is one of the 2.2 ohm resistors that is right near the convergence chips.
Does anybody know where I can find these? Radio Shack? Fry's? Or do I have to order them?
Thanks!
