I just moved and had to go from Cablevision to Patriot Media and I seem to be having 1 problem with the moto HDDVR. The problem is in the picture. Lets say I'm watching Sportscenter on ESPN in HD. Everything looks great, but when it goes to commericials and you're supposed to get those sidebars that say HD. Well I get those, but they're kinda cut off. Same thing happens on the YES network when I'm watching the Yankees game. The Y in YES is almost cut in half. Also the YESHD logo in the bottom right corner just fits... when I go to guide, and it gives me the preview, I can tell that I should be seeing more picture. It's cropping the picture on both sides, and top and bottom. It almost seems like my TV is set on Zoom, but it's not... I've already checked that. It's also not localized to HD channels, when I go to a regular channel I notice it does the same thing (I check by using the guide preview).

I can't for the life of me figure out what's up here. My TV sure wasn't doing this when I had the cablevision box. I even tried the box on a different HD TV in my house, and the same thing is happening, so it has to be the box.

I've tried looking for settings but can't find anything to adjust the picture on the Box besides the initial set up (turn it off hit menu... which those settings are right).

Does anyone have any idea?!?!?! It's driving me nuts.

Is there a setting I'm missing or do I have a bum box??

Thanks in advance, Joe

What is your make and model of TV. Most TVs have about 4-6% of overscan and CRT-based Direct View TVs can have even more. This is "normal" if you have this amount, although it can typically be fixed in the service menu.

You say it's the box, but are the analogue channels that you can tune with the TVs really much different from the analogue channels when tuned with the STB?

I have a Panasonic 47in projection TV... It's about 3yrs old. I don't remember seeing this before when I had cablevision and was using their STB, but you could be right. I only noticed it this time because of when I go to the guide I can see there's more TV.

There's not a huge difference between TV's w/o the STB, and the one with it. But there's something def getting cut off...

When you say I can fix it in the service menu, do you mean the STB service menu? or the TV service menu? Becuase I think I've looked everywhere possible in the moto menu, and can't find anything!

TV Service menu. See the HDTV FAQ regarding Service Codes.

As you indicate, part of the reason people notice is because they can now see what they are missing. Before you didn't see the missing bits, so you didn't know how much overscan you had.

Cool, thanks found it. So once I'm in the Service menu, what am I looking for? I saw on the FAQ that you could ruin your TV... with what I'm looking to change, is it really possible I'll ruin it?

I have to say I have noticed the same thing only recently with ESPNHD and the 6412. The "ESPNHD" logo on the bottom right is half off the screen, but I didn't notice that before on that channel and don't notice it on any other channels. Did ESPN change the location of it somewhat recently?

I looked at ESPN last night and I looked at it this morning. More of the HD side logo was showing this morning. I checked the guide image last night and I could see an additional 1" to 1"1/2 on the center part of the H. The program they were showing this morning seemed narrower and I could see that part of the H that I was missing last night. I checked the guide view again, and just about everythin I could see on the regular image I was seeing on the guide.
