My Sony just started...

Displaying a moving white transparent line from right to left and its about an inch thick.

I have a Sony Widescreen KD-34XBR970 34" CRT (weighs about 300 pounds), had it for a few years now.

I first noticed the problem when watching Saw 2 on DVD...it's a real dark movie so the line was really noticable. I thought it was the DVD player or maybe the DVI cord was going but then I tried the DVD in the Xbox 360 and it was almost worse.

Now I see it watching normal cable and HD channels.

Anyone ever heard of this type of issue?

Any ideas on what it would cost to fix?

You have an alternating current entering into the signal line somehow. Make sure your signal cables are not close to any A/C cables and make sure they're all properly connected (not loose). You may have a grounding issue with your cable, which may not be properly grounded. See the following:
