Question regarding this article excerpt:
HDMI 1.3 will also support the lossless formats of Dolby HD and DTS-HD along with a new type of HDMI connector for smaller HD devices. It seems that this new mini connector is what Sony has put on their newest SXRD-based XBRs but left off of the A2000 line. Lastly, 1.3 has a system built-in similar to Panasonic Viera Link. It allows for the HDMI device to configure the HDMI display - in since they will talk to each other.
*Does this mean my two HDMI slot Sony TV will be obsolete going forward because of a smaller HDMI cable or can the article excerpt be read to mean, they will have various sizes of the HDMI cable for use with other "smaller HDMI devices"?
Your feedback (guesswork) is appreciated.

It sounds like they simply added another type of HDMI connector for smaller partable electronic devices (camcorders), so that they can continue to make Handycams that you can lose under your couch. The Sony SXRD XBR2 will have two "standard" HDMI inputs on the back, and one "HDMI mini" on the front for camcorder/camera.
General question:
I can't find reliable information as to wether the upgrade to 1.3 is going to be something that can be firmware upgraded. Does anyone have a link? The HDMI connector should be standard, so its not a matter of hardware, so if a device had firmware upgradeability (HD-XA1), then it should be a simple update, right?

I just found out that the TV I am buying has HDMI 1.3 support. Is it true all 2006 TV's(or most) will have 1.3 support?
I plan on buying PS3.
Will I need a special HDMI 1.3 cable, or will the one with the PS3 be fine?
Does anyone know how 1.3 will look? Will there be a significant difference? Is PS3 the first medium to use 1.3?
Thanks.

No...

Physically? The same. Video quality? The same.
Is PS3 the first medium to use 1.3?
Perhaps...
