View Full Version : TV Repair Noob needs help PT-51HX41

I have a Panasonic PT-51HX41 that's about 4-5 years old now, and just today I've got a problem. My green tube seems to be out of whack, where on the lower third of the screen I have a nice, wavy, horizontal, green stripe across the bottom. I tried adjusting convergence, but it only allows me to go Red and Blue (and I don't think it would help anyway).

It sort of reminds me of the old-skool computer monitors when you his the Degauss button, except it's in permanent degauss mode for the green. Is my green tube shot? Can I fix it myself (little electronic repair knowlege, but a quick study!), or is the repair worth more than the TV itself?

Also, for my knowledge, what causes this? The tv hasn't been moved, and I can't think of a magnetic source that's been near it.

Thanks a million.

Many TVs that age have issues with the Convergence ICs going bad. See the Sticky at the top of the Hitachi forum discussing this issue.

A typical repair is about $300, unless you do it yourself and then the parts are typically less than $100.
