Well, the next door neighbor has a garage sale last Saturday. On my way out the door for work I swing by and low and behold he has an 850 for sale $15.00. I bit. He bought it in January of 2006. Seemed to be in nice shape. After an hour of trying to get the hdcp disabled (yes it does work on newer models you just HAVE to have the output set to component/hdmi screen will go black, it’s looking for the hdmi. Follow ratman’s directions, you won’t be able to see the hdcp free flash, and then hit the hdmi sel button until picture returns eureka!) Anyway that’s not the reason for the post. The audio in both Dolby & Dts seems to be about 4-5 db lower that my other player. Is there any reason for this? I’ve gone through the audio setup portion of the player & can’t seem to find anything that is out of whack.
Thanks for the help!
PS. Not worth the $15.00. IMO

It is an inexpensive unit (I hesitate to use the word cheap) so if you have already have a decent player you probably won't gain anything with this one. As far as the volume goes, I doubt there's anything wrong..............probably just a characteristic of the unit.

For $15 you can't go wrong IMO.

That's what I thought. I shouldn't say the $15.00 wasn't worth it. The upscaling looks kind of funky though. Anyway I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Thanks for the help!

Make sure the DRC (Dynamic Range Control) is not on, it compresses the dynamic range of the sound..every dvd player has some sort of function like it, it should be set to OFF.

Just an FYI if you decide to keep it:) ;)

There is a thread on this unit in this catagory..............worth checking out as there are some settings that should be checked in order to insure optimum performance of the unit.

Well, over the weekend I dug out AVIA and got things dialed in. Not too shabby. My question this time is, why when I switch to HDMI/component through the setup menu why does the the menu become distorted and geometry is all out of whack? When I switch to Component I scan everything is fine. Movies in both settings play fine, just the menu doesn't display properly. HDCP is disabled & I'm routing it to the set with component cables.
Matt27 drc was on. Somehow I missed it the first time.
Thanks for the help.
