what receiver?

I am looking at upgrading my sound system bit at a time and figure that the receiver is as good a place to start as any.

My question is. What is the best receiver I can get in the $400-500 range.

Look in the FAQ section, 7th one down on the home page - the post "IF only I'd have known". Some of the features may help you decide. These features can be extremely important for some HDTV viewers.

(Audio auto detect, HD component video switching, etc.)

It is about 3 years old and I am extremely happy with it.
I have never had any complaints or problems.

I paid $800 Canadian (About $500US)


The Dolby Digital & DTS is fantastic!!!

The only feature it is missing is "S" video and "Component" switching, but they have added it to the newer model (AVR 1803)

You can check them out at www.denon.com

I would also look at Rotel, Marantz & Onkyo. I here that Onkyo just came out with a very good AV Receiver that is in that price range.

I should read I have a Denon AVR 1800.
