View Full Version : Frivolous use of extension cords

Hopeing somebody will know the answer to this. I need to extend the power cords of several components, with most of them terminating at a fully used 1500VA UPS. I figured it would be a good idea to use medium duty extension cords, but should I be trying to avoid using extension cords all togeather? Highest demand components will be a lcd monitor and front projector that will have to be extended 10' and 15' respectively. Are there any detrimental effects I should be aware of and, if so, is there anything I can do to limit these effects?

thanks

I would avoid them if possible. I know most power strips (and UPSs too?) usually advise not using extension cords with them. But if all else fails, get say an appliance grade (thicker gauge wiring) cords for your high consumption components like the TV unit and receiver. Actually I'm thinking maybe it might be better to plug the UPS into the appliance grade cord, and then hook your stuff directly to the UPS, that's how I'd go about it at least.
