Hi, I'm in need of opinions in a real hurry cuz I'm heading to Best Buy to make a t.v. purchase here pretty quick, but need help deciding which set to buy.
I need to buy a tube t.v. for my casual living room.
I'm wondering how regular Dish network (not HD) looks on these digital tube t.v.'s - more specific the Samsung txs2783 slimfit t.v. Do regular SD satellite signals look as bad on these t.v.'s as they do on the HD t.v.'s or will it be okay if I am to use S-Video from the Dish receiver to the t.v.?
In general how does the Samsung slimfit 27" digital tube t.v. compare to the 27" Sony Wega digital tube t.v.? They both have off air tuners built in so I can get digital signals downgraded to 480i - still nice.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
You may wish to read the HDTV FAQ on "Poor SD PQ". The setup of the TV and the quality of the original signal impact the ultimate picture quality a lot (often more than the particular brand/model of TV.).
The Samsung slimfits have had a large number of geometry issues. Do a search for them on this website (Samsung slimfit).
The Sonys seem to be the leaders in direct view CRT HDTVs.

Have there been geometry issues with the 27" slimfit non-HD tube t.v.'s as well?
I'm talking about the non-HD tube t.v.
I've heard several tube t.v. are having geometry issues due to the lack of pin cushion settings in these cheaper sets. I was told all the money and time spend on pin cushion settings goes into the higher end HD big screens.
Thanks
P.S. Well since the setup matters most - with regular SD Dish network would see the best picture using S-Video or composit Yellow?

You will not have any problems, You can use S-video. I have multiple TVs connected with 5g6,svideo and yellow RCA and see no difference on SD TVs.

I noticed the composit red, white, and yellow cables Dish network provided me with were made of RG59 cable - for the video anyway. They must make their own cables. Is a composit yellow made out of RG59 as good as a cable you'd buy in the store - i.e. is it the same thing>?
Thanks!

They don't make there own cables. They buy them in bulk prepackaged.
Any free cable is as good as you buy in a store. We are talking basic analog cables. I have all kinds of them around from every time I buy a DVD player or upgrade DISH receiver.

The TV model you provided in post 1 is an HDTV. It's just 4:3 instead of 16:9. I can't say for sure if the geometry issues affect all slimfits, however... be warned.

No such thing as a digital tube TV either... All tube based TV's are analog.
