Hello,
I have a unique situation here, let me first explain:
I have owned a 61” JVC 61G786 for approximately one year now. It worked for the first 2 months I had it, and after that I have not had a 100% working television ever since. I have had it in for repairs 3 times and the TV entirely replaced 2 different times all within the past 10 months. It has been an absolute nightmare dealing with JVC customer service. Since I have had so many problems JVC is offering to refund me the $2500 I paid for this TV one year ago. I was wondering if you would advise I stick with this TV and continue with the hassle of getting it repaired or go with a different TV.
I have briefly looked at prices on the net and it appears that to get a 61" TV for under the $2500 price would mean I would have to go with a DLP, which I am not sure if I am comfortable with considering DLP's have moving parts, supposedly there is gaming lag, rainbow effect, etc... I did all my research a year ago, and I found LCD or LCOS was the way to go at that time....
So my question is, should I Stick with JVC since it still seems to be the biggest bang for the buck, or move on and go with something else? And what TV in the 60” screen size is the best deal for under $2500?
Thanks for any help!!!

Take the $2500 and run!!! If you had this much hassel with JVC in the past year, you're better off getting a brand new TV from a different manufactuer. I would get an LCD for that money. As for the brand, I have no idea, but take the money and run.

$2500 would get you a 56" 1080 D-ILA.

I agree, the set is awesome at Best Buy and offers better iris control for deeper colours and better blacks this year, at least from what I can tell.
You got a lemon, tried to work with it, and for the $2500, you get a 1080p model vs. the 720p set you had with 5" less diagonal, your call.

It's too bad every time I see a reply as this; "I'll never buy a **** again". One bad apple doesn't spoil the bushel.

Good deal, too, as I would have bought this model without the speakers sides and it does have those coveted 1080p inputs that were missing last round.
It would have taken less space in my HT centre and from what I have read in Sound&Vision magazine on line, and it claims it is every bit as good as the XBR1 sets were...I agree as I have seen all of them.
As for me, I don't need cablecards - I use the 8300HD DVR from TWC, so the A2000 line of SXRDs is just right. :)
As far as JVC goes, its a mixed bag with quality control, though most of my contacts that are owners of JVC sets, like them.
Sony LCoS might be the right "ticket" this time for you, I understand your feelings.
You should find luck getting a great price as Milwaukee has a big list of competitors selling this set, so try to find the best deal between them.
The matching stand looks pretty good, too, unless you have something equally good to put it on, already.
Sony has straps to secure their sets to their matching stands, so that is what I always buy when I buy Sony RPTVs (prevents tipping over if you move them). :D

Good luck with your Sony. As far as I know, they have same problems.

Good luck with your Sony. As far as I know, they have same problems.
It's a trade off in manufacturer and even the display of the sets.
The clients I know with the JVC 720p LCoS displays love them and I set them up, so don't think I just like Sony, both manufacturers are an acquired "taste".
My understanding is JVC uses a digital-type LCoS display with its HD-ILA manufacture of LCoS and Sony uses analogue (or something close, but not the same).
Whatever set you choose as your replacement, make sure your extended warranty covers replacement after a trial repair period - bulb replacement wouldn't hurt, either.
Additionally, make sure the place you buy it from has a good reputation with repairs and backs up its claims and if you happen to move out-of-area, the store still provides coverage.
For example, some local stores in my area didn't cover my client's move out-of-state and now their repair trucks will not be found at their front door anytime soon. If they go use an authorized JVC repair centre, pay for it, then they (possibly) will reinburse them back (the customer)...not fun.

Hello..Just bought a JVC 56G787, all is ok..and connected (Comcast HD cable box, DVI to HDMI) right by those tech/delivery boys of BestBuy. My only concern if anybody has the answer is, during some HD channel viewing as the picture is displayed in 4:3 format the side lines running vertical are bowed not straight up & down. is this right? or is something wrong with the set? or settings?..Thanks

You should see the lines straight up and down - check your cable box settings, though I would check the geometry of the screen using a test pattern from a setup disc...check our forum's FAQs.

Cable folks came and determined it is not the boxes. It seems to be the goemetry settings need tweaking by way of service menu. I will not attempt such a delicate operation, so BB is giving me another JVC replacement. We'll see how that one fares..is there a code form of sorts for the service menu?
