A little help please

My brother is ready to buy a new set as his old Zenith 27 inch CRT finally crapped out. He wants HD and wants a Sony. He's a senior citizen who only watches tv and rents dvds. He's narrowed it down to the following 3 Sony's and is asking my opinion. (1) Bravia KDL-40S2000, (2) KDF-42E2000, (3) KDF-E42A10. Other than the fact that (1) is an LCD Flat Panel and the others are LCD rear projection, is there anything that any of the sets have as a significant plus over the other? Is the Bravia a significantly better set than the 3LCD sets? I would appreciate any thoughts and suggestions that I can pass on to him.

If he has no intention of getting HD programming, he could save some money and get an EDTV.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. My brother is going to upgrade to HD service, probably via cable since he already has cable service...hence the questions about the 3 sets he's interested in. He does not want a plasma/EDTV set. Thanks for the reply.

Personally I'd go with the flat panel. No lamps (burnout/replacement) to contend with.
