Well, I really did my homework ( 2months work) and went from almost getting a 56'' Panasonic 4:3 HDTV to really considering the Hitachi and RCA Scenium widescreens. Although the Hitachi seem to have many good reviews and I was impressed with it, the new RCA were blowing away all the customers AND salespeople at CC. I thought the picture and the "cinematica" stretch mode was better than the "expanded" Hitachi mode with OTA and DVD's were much more vivid. I was glad that my two favs were right next to each other on the floor. So since the RCA was even 4'' bigger and on sale at that time, I plunged and got the 61 RCA Scenium for the same price as the 57 Hitachi UWX. With CC giving me $700 off any TV (for an early mishap of not haivng a TV I ordered) AND a free $100 gift card, I got off paying $1650 before tax and with free delivery and set up. No financing for 24mo too!! I think I got a good deal. What sealed it for me was that I have 30 days to decide if it is what I really want and if not, they come pick it back up and give me the Hitachi - no charge. My concern is whether or not the 4 year unlimited service plan with annual cleaning is worth it for $450. Curious what others think???

So thanks to this forum I was able to understand and ask so many more appropriate questions that some salespeople didn't even know the answers too. What I didn't realize is that RCA has the same manufacturers lenses as Hitachi (and 5 too.) This reassured me some more.

So now I have set up late today (much quicker than I anticipated) but Comcast can not come out to set up the Digital HD box until tomorrow. Should I even bother setting it up with the analog cable today or just wait until tomorrow. I guess it can't hurt to see it - right? Also, I have a non-progressive scan Sony DVD player and also PS2. I plan on getting a progressive scan hopefully sometime in the next 2 weeks. For now, what is my best bet for watching a DVD? I saw the FAQ question for setting up a VCR and will do it that way.

Also - although CC encouraged the monster cable it seems that this forum overall thinks its a waste of money so I held off. In that case what cables do I need overall to make this a successful hook-up? I have a few basic audio/video cables lying around as well as one S-Video cable and a few splittes. Is this enough?

Whew - I am tired just thinking about all the work I have cut out for me. Thank you for any suggestions/opinions!

A great budget conscious DVD player is the panasonic RP62.
It's progressive output, and has the FLI2200 processor from Sage that is really the thing to look for when getting a progressive output DVD player.

Anyway I've been really happy with this little player, and it only set me back 170$.

I believe these are now on sale for about $130-$140, representing excellent value.
