I currently am receiving my HD programming from my CM UHF/VHF antenna.Although the antenna is about 20 years old it is is great shape and was $99.00 when new.I went to CM's website and a similar antenna now costs about $200.00.It is about 25 ft or so off the ground and seems to pick up fine most of the time.I am on a mountain,so I don't think it needs anymore height.I was wondering though if an amplifier would help when it is raining or when for whatever reason I get that "poor signal quality" logo across the top of the screen.I watch the WB alot out of Lynchburg VA and I hate it when the picture goes out when I am watching my fav show.

Check www.antennaweb.org for distance/direction of x-mitters.
if you provide your zip code, we can check also.
Have you replaced/upgraded the cables/connectors/baluns/etc. lately?

My zip is 24740.I am getting ready to take the antenna down and put up a new pole to mount it to.The old one is leaning ,so I can check all the cables while I have it on the ground.I wonder if the CM Sparten 3 amplifier would help any?

Well, antennaweb doesn't show anything promising.;)
anyway... yeah, if the existing mast is bent, a new one is in order.
IMO... while you're going through the effort, I'd suggest a rotator and a pre-amp as well as new RG6 coax and connectors.

Actyally, the new Channel Master Crossfire 3671, a deep-fringe all-channel antenna is widely available for around $100-$110 online, and is an excellent antenna: when used with a preamplifier, you can expect to see Roanoke and some West Virginia stations. It is difficult to tell if all of the Roanoke stations have built out full-power digital signals from the FCC website, but I do know that WBRA-DT, the PBS station is operating at full power on channel 3 digital, and the other Roanoke stations should cover your area fairly well when they come online.
The best solution for you would be my "deep-fringe-prescription" which consists of a Channel Master 4228 UHF antenna and a Wade-Delhi VIP-306 or a VIP 307 VHF antenna with a Channel Master Titan 7777 preamplifier and a good rotator, like a Hy_gain AR-40 or, not as heavy duty, a Channel Master 9521a rotator. If there is anything in the air at your location, that will pull it out!
