My Panasonic TV has wide bars on each side of the screen. I had this TV stored for awhile and when I plugged it up, this is what I see. I thought it was the Color matrix and V position selects in the picture set up mode problem but I don't know how to get them highlighted to allow for adjustment. Am I on the right track and how do I fix this??? Please help, the game comes on in 2 hours!!!!
Black bars on the sides of upconverted 4:3 programming are normal. There should be no bars on true HD programming, since it's 16:9. See the HDTV FAQs "What's on in HD" and "Black Bars"
If you're talking about something else, I think we need additional information from you, like colour of bars, are they always there, are they there when using a DVD, are you using a cable STB, what is the make/model, etc.

The bars are white and I can see that its on 4:3 but I want the screen spread across the screen. I can't figure in what setting the aspect button should work to change this. is there a certain setting the TV should be on? or is there something else wrong with the set? I have dishnetwork satellite and their dvr box set up.
There should be an aspect button or stretch mode that allows to to fill the screen with 4:3 images. See the HDTV FAQ on "Widescreen TV Stretch Modes".
It is possible that these bars are coming from the STBs and not the TV, in which case you have to invoke their stretch modes.
Most HDTVs will not properly stretch incoming HD formats (720P/1080i), so for SD channels, you may wish to set up the STB to output 480i to allow you to stretch those channels.
I hope what I'm saying makes some sense.
