Well, after months of fence sitting and absorbing as much as I could from reading thousands of posts on various HT forums, I finally took the plunge and purchased my much awaited Panasonic TH-50PX60U PDP!! Yippee!!! The recent drop in MSRP allowed the B&M stores to drop their prices a few hundred dollars, which was all I needed to get off said fence and head to Best Buy and pick one up. I've had it for three days now (three days closer to achieving tempered phosphour cells- Hooray)
I had a rather pleasant experience at BB, with no problems!
I immediately set up the plasma display and used my Samsung SIR-T165 STB's component feed for the tuner feed. Of course, I took the picture mode out of "torch mode!" LOL Then I set white level and the other picture settings to low settings, which I intend to maintain for the first hundred hours or so to "age the phosphours gracefully," as it were.
The HD imaging is still awesome, even at the lower settings! I can keep track of the hours logged by the set via the Service Menu. I should be "good to go" by the start of the NFL regular season! I also plan to subscribe to the Silver package of Dish HD, which will further add to the enjoyment of this fabulous PDP. Right now, I enjoy PBS and the other OTA digital and HD digital broadcasts. :D All nonWidescreen images (with pilar bars- black or grey) are resolved using the Justification (JUST) aspect control.
In conclusion, I am really excited about my new investment and look forward to many years of visual entertainment on my new Panny PDP!
