Hi, I just purchased an JVC Av48WP30. I seem to have a strange problem with this set. Once in a while the TV turn itself off and then back on again. And I was wonder is it is just my set or does it happen with all model Av48WP30? I still have one more week left before the 30 days return end at Best Buy. Should I call for service or just return it for a diferent TV? Any inputs are welcome. Thanks.

Webster.

This may be similar to the CRT arcing that occurs on some Toshiba sets. Keep track of it and if it diminishes, you should be OK.

Thanks, I guess I'll keep the set. I really like the quality of the picture. I've just wish that more stations are broadcast in HDTV 24/7 :D :D

I've had this tv 2 months and the tv did just that tonight. I'll keep an eye on this, Other than that the tv is top notch in my opinion.

I bought this TV a couple of weeks before Christmas and last night it switched itself off then on. This is the first time it has done it, and hopefully the last!

One problem (?) i'm having is when watching soccer. The players are blurred, I can't make out who is who, they all appear to be in a haze. When the camera begins to zoom in the picture is perfect. I've tried playing with all the modes and settings, but no luck. Any ideas?

I'm watching soccer on Fox Sportsnet Canada, digital cable (which is not true digital).

I just bought a AV56WP30 from CC three weeks ago for a great price. It just started doing the off/on thing recently for twice with one week in between. Right now, I don't know if I should stick with it or exchange for a different Brand/Model (they don't have any in stock), or get an extended Warranty from CC in case it gets real bad down the road. But so far it seems to be more of a nuisance than anything serious. Does this off/on thing generally become worse and worse or tend to go away after a while? Any suggestions will be welcomed.

My buddy who works at PC Richards, told me that JVC has just discontinued that model. They are not making it anymore. I wonder if it's because all the problems they have been having with them.

Most TVs have timers. You may have your timer set to turn the TV on. Check your operating manual for the timer functions.

I had the same problem with mine about 2 weeks into owning the set. After it turned on and off 3 times it came back on and had a brownish hue on the right hand side of the screen. I also noticed it had two bright pink dots in the upper left hand corner. After much grief Best Buy took it back. As soon as the money shows back on my card I am going to do what I should have done in the 1st place.......buy a Mitsubishi. I am truly disapointed with the JVC and wish things would have worked out better because the price was right and the picture was satisfactory. Good luck.

I have been having the same problem. I purchased my television in december. I never had a problem until recently. The television turns itself on and off at random. Sometimes it doesn't happen for hours but sometimes i cannot even watch a single show. When it turns itself off, i have to use the remote to turn it back on and most of the time it turns right back off again. It has become an everyday thing now.

JVC has fix for this symptom. You may contact an ASC

I have this problem constantly. It started a few months after purchase. It shuts itself on and off randomly. Middle of the night, middle of a show, I can hardly watch a single show without it cutting off multiple times. Then the remote gets out of wack. I have to stomp on the floor to get the remote to work or to turn it on or off. Very dissappointed for such an expensive tv.

Your problem of turning on and off is due to grease pencil markings used by the QA during assembly of your set. It is highly conductive. Color is usually blue. Most problems come from the small circuit board mounted behind the lower front cover of unit. If anyone would like more info drop me an email. There is a service bulletin out on this problem.. Set will also come on by itself in the middle of the night....Oh by the way I am a JVC authorized service technician and will gladly help all....

This powering off phenomenon has happened two or three times in the two years I have had my set... should I be concerned?

Also, it seems my convergence does not hold its place very well. I have to go in and move the settings almost every time I watch TV. In the 9 point convergence from the main menu, the two lower left crosses and the two lower right crosses always need adjustment.

Another observation is that the crosses in the corner seem out of focus and washed out compared to the center cross which is clear and crisp. Is there a way to correct or adjust this?

Is there something I can do about the constant drift of the guns? I am thinking of trying to get into the service menu and do a 64 point convergence adjustment, but am unsure if this will help. Any advice?

Hi, do you do repairs on JVC Convergence Boards?
Thanks,

Believe it or not, this problem is still going on. Someone from the ASC in my area came out and looked at it last year but because the problem didn't occur while they were there and because i was under warranty, they had no idea about this problem and refused to acknowledge it as a common problem. They also tried to sell me an extended warranty which i refused. I dropped pete a line hoping he can help me on this. TV still works fine other than that.
