again, sorry if i posted this in the wrong place, but having just bought the new 50" samsung, i'm wondering if i should put out the $350.00 for a Mack warranty (in home service) for the 3 years.
does this make sense?
thx

Here is my take:
You just spent a good deal of money on this TV (probably WAY more than $1000). To me, it's worth the extra ~$200-300 to get the warranty. Why?
I don't know if you are married, but I don't want to explain to my wife why this $4000 TV that I just bought is going to cost us another $300 to fix ______(fill in the blank) in a few years. I was reading on Mack's site, and their warranty doesn't kick in until the manufacturer's warranty is over. If you get a 3 year Mack warranty, you are coverd for 4 years (I don't know about Samsung, but Sony has a 1 year warranty).
This (http://tapeworkstexas.com/mack_warranty_tv_only_.html) is a good place to get your warrranty, or simply to read the FAQ about how Mack warranties work. Hope this helps.

I am not a firm believer in ESP's/aka warranties. BUT if you are getting bulb replacement, as well as no cost out of pocket if something should arise 3 years after your manfacturer warranty expires, then it would be a good deal.
For my TV it would be 200 dollars compared to 400 that HH Gregg wanted to charge me. Bulb replacment cost is about 200 for my TV.
Thank's for the link Ju1ce
Plasmas are a bit different. They don't have bulbs and if something breaks it sometimes means a complete replacement of the plasma, whereas most RPTVs, etc have "parts" that one replaces, repairs.
Again though, it comes down to how much you wish to pay for "insurance" on your TV.

I don't know if you have made your 'official' decision about a warranty, but this is a link (http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/showthread.php?t=27516) to a thread that is discussing the kind of thing that getting an extended warranty will help avoid.
Hope this helps,

thanks everyone, i have decided to buy a Mack warranty from B&H photo video as that's where i buy all my DSLR gear and video stuff.
hey it's only $350.00, and once i buy it i'll forget the cost.
