Getting very close to the actual purchase of my first HDTV, 42" LCD (Toshiba 42HL196). One question I have is getting the proper surge protector. I have had good luck with APC for my computers and I'm looking for input on who's using what. I am looking at the APC CS 350, does antone have experience with this particular unit and/or head me in the right direction for proper protection for HDTV and the rest of the Home Theater.

I would say APC's are one of the best in surge protection & UPS's for computers. I need to get an APC surge protector for my HT equipment though. My HDTV is covered for surges with Best Buy's extended service plan, but the rest of my equipment has no protection right now.

Been using a Brickwall series mode style surge protector for a year and a half on my system, never had a problem with it. There are more posts on surge protectors here that you should be able to turn up with the search engine if you'd like some more to read also.

personally i'm going with a whole house surge protection system. and also a point of use system, dont know which one yet. leaning heavily toward panamax or brickwall. i believe the panamax is an MOV based supressor which has a lifespan and after that will let a surge through, but the brickwall is not and should last forever no matter how many surges it takes. gotta do a little more research. also , have seen coax protectors that do not degrade signal. they are MOV based but when they have reached their end of life they no longer pass a signal, so you know its time to replace.

I don't believe Brickwall makes whole house systems, there are others that do make them using the same technology as Brickwall though.

i know. i wasnt talking about brickwall as a whole house. i was saying that i'm going to get a whole house unit (havent decided which brand). and that i was also considering the brickwall at the point of use. ie: the receptical.
i see how this could have been misunderstood by my post.
