hell everyone,
Well, I kinda messed up. HD or TVs for that matter have never been of great interest to me. I just purchases a Mitsubishi WS-55809
http://www.audioreview.com/PRD_127942_2726crx.aspx

I only payed 1300 for it. Well, as I happened to be in Best Buy last evening I got a stomachache seeing the quality of the HD sets.
Someone made mention of an HD converter available soon.
Should I feel silly for my purchase of the TV?
:(

umm, your tv is HDTV!!
It is HD ready, meaning you just get a HD receiver and you have HDTV!

goto the STB receiver section and read up..

Well you have several options on the converter (often referred to as a Set-Top Box, or STB) front. Do you currently subscribe to a satellite service, such as DirecTV? Also, where do you live, as that may determine if you have any of your locals currently broadcasting in HDTV? If you look in the STB forum here you may also find some discussions about which STBs some folks like.

guyonthecouch,

$1300.00? Was that an open box, return, refurbished model?

If not, don't feel bad. That is the best price I have seen on a 55809. In the link you posted the lowest price shown is $2100. Even if it is a return, etc., it's still a pretty good price.

I won't get long winded here since this is not the STB forum, but you should definately consider the Zenith DTV-1080 STB for your Mits. One place Mits does not necessarily shine is the internal line doubler. The Zenith does a much better job on non HD material than Mits.
