Help guys,
Here's my dilemma.

I currently have an RPTV that I want to replace with newer technology. It's a 55" RPTV Mitsubishi WS55513 (about two years old). I have it sold for $550.00. That doesn't sound like a lot, but its a big old dinosour.

I was in PC Richards over the weekend looking at TVs and the salesman sold to an old unsuspecting customer a new RPTV Zenith 50" $900.00 brand new!!

Anyway, should I hold onto the old TV and wait for newer technology to become available or take the money run to the store and buy something new? Or keep the money, watch the 25" TV downstairs and wait for newer technology thats coming soon (before I die)??

If I buy now, I want a 55-65" RPTV. No plasma! Maybe the DLP 1080P Mitsubishi WD62513 or the Sony KDS 60A2000.

I know the Sony isn't DLP, but another techonolgy (no Color wheel I think). I heard good and bad about both.

My budget is between $2000 and $2800. What to do?

No plasma, as the Mrs. likes to watch reg. broadcast with bars on the sides, hence the burn in lines that I have on the old TV. Another reason to unload it.

Help!
Thanks Bill

$550 for a TV with burn in? I feel sorry for the sucker you're selling it to. $900 for a new 50 inch RPCRT isn't a bad deal either. CRT's are still the best when it comes to black levels and color reproduction.

As for your budget, read up on the different manufacturers and the technologies they use, go into the stores, check out the different and see what looks best to you, follow up with reading reviews and opinions on the models you like and go from there. Your question is too generic now, I could probably come up with dozens of models that fit your requirements now.

Thanks for the quick reply!

As you say, your answer is too generic! Just kidding! :)

I'm lost on the info highway, and I've been following Home Theatre since I had my Laser Discs, so we've come a long way.

I need some guidance as to what I want in a TV. It must be HDTV obviously.

I have a Scientific Atlanta HD8030 DVR HD box and my wife watches more regular broadcast than HD, hence the side bars. I watch either HD or DVDs and I want the latest technology (1080p and HDMI), but I am afraid of the plasmas.

So come on throw me some suggestions. With all the stuff going on... DLP, color wheels, the Sony mirrors, etc., help me out.

I would appreciate it.
Thanks, Bill

I did give you some suggestions. The main technologies that fit your requirements are LCD flat panels, LCD rear projection, DLP rear projection and LCOS rear projection. A number of manufacturers make flat panel LCD's, Sony makes both rear projection LCD and LCOS sets, companies like Toshiba and Samsung use DLP rear projection sets.

Personally I'd suggest looking at the Sony SXRD sets, they are 1080P, LCOS based and probably offer the best PQ for a non CRT rear projection set. If you shop around you can find a 60" model in your range.
